Barbados and China today negotiated on Treaties for Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters and Extradition.
And, ahead of that meeting, Director-General of the Department of Treaty and Law in China???s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Xu Hong, paid a courtesy call on Attorney General, Adriel Brathwaite, at his Wildey, St. Michael, office.
During the courtesy call, Mr. Xu, head of the Chinese delegation and a former Ambassador to Barbados, indicated that he was positive the one-day negotiations would be completed by the end of the day.
He added that both Barbados and China were working jointly towards the same goal, and with that spirit of cooperation and understanding, any technical issues being faced could be resolved.
The Attorney General agreed, noting that he too believed the negotiations could be concluded within the allotted time, and indicated that there were key areas on which focus was needed.
???Barbados and China have had a very outstanding relationship over the years, and we value that relationship and look forward to its continuing enhancement,??? Mr. Brathwaite said.
Following today???s negotiations, any agreement reached would be submitted to the Cabinet of Barbados for approval, and similarly to the National People???s Congress in China.
Barbados and China established diplomatic relations on May 30, 1977.
