Barbados is seeking to increase its tourism arrivals from Europe, including from the Kingdom of Belgium.
News of this came from Acting Prime Minister Richard Sealy, who has responsibility for the Ministry of Tourism and International Transport.
He made the comments on Tuesday as Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium, Godelieve Van den Bergh, paid him a courtesy call at Government Headquarters.
Mr. Sealy acknowledged that the number of tourists coming from Belgium was very small, but noted that officials here had increased their efforts to attract visitors from Continental Europe.
???We are very strong in the United Kingdom, but we have to strengthen our brand in Europe because there is so much potential there??? We are doing our part to reach out to Europe and make it easier for your people to travel. We are talking to a number of key players in the market,??? he stated.
The Acting Prime Minister described Barbados as a quality destination with a full range of hotels which the rich and famous as well as those working within a budget could utilise.
Ambassador Van den Bergh said she was hopeful both countries could increase their relations, especially since they had a lot of similarities.
She disclosed that Belgians travelled throughout the year and expressed hope that tourist arrivals would improve.
Barbados and Belgium established diplomatic relations in October 1970.
