Bay Primary School, located at Bay Gardens, St. Michael, will tomorrow Thursday, February 28, host its annual parade for African Awareness Day throughout the community.
Beginning at 9:30 a.m., students, teachers and parents/guardians dressed in African garb, will move to the strains of the Tuk Band and its accompanying indigenous folk characters- including the Mother Sally, stilt walker, shaggy bear, green monkey, along their chosen route.
They will go via Bay Gardens, towards Upper Beckles Road, Culloden Road through Tamarind Avenue on to Chelston Avenue, across to St. Paul’s Avenue, into Lawrence Avenue then back to the school via Beckles Road.
Along the route, the parade will make four brief stops with the aim of distributing fruit baskets/hampers to the Joan Arundell Day Nursery, the Geriatric Hospital and two elderly persons in the community.
The parade is expected to culminate at 10:45 a.m. and upon return to the school, the folk characters will perform for the children.
Later in the afternoon, there will be other African-related activities including story-telling by Cicely Spencer-Cross; stick-licking demonstrations and the playing of warri games by Addington Forde as well as limbo dancing by Juette James. African exhibits and food will also be on display.
Bay Primary School is this year commemorating 100 years of its existence.
