Officers from the Barbados Government Information Service (BGIS) recently had the opportunity to participate in the International Communications Skills Course for Caribbean Media Professionals, conducted by the British High Commission.
BGIS Information Officers in the Web and Social Media Section, Aisha Reid and Mikul Elcock, completed the four-day training course, along with media professionals from seven Caribbean islands.
The course covered several areas recognised as critical for communicating in the digital age, including writing, cybersecurity, visual communication, social media, and podcast development.
The intensive workshop was designed to empower regional journalists to communicate more effectively in the digital age.
Lead course facilitator, Caroline Black, was happy with the results. “My fellow trainers and I were so impressed by the course participants – what an incredible group of dedicated people. It was a week where everyone shared their experiences, played with new ideas, and had a lively debate about the standards of journalism across the world and locally. The long-term effect will be even higher quality journalism across the Caribbean,” Ms. Black said.
