Information technology usage within the education sector and its implications for training and development opportunities will be examined next month when the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development hosts a three-day symposium and exhibition at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre (LESC), Two Mile Hill, St. Michael.??
Dubbed Barbados Technology in Education Conference (BTEC), the inaugural event will be held from March 14 to 17, under the theme Transforming Barbadian Education: Learning Powered through Technology.
BTEC is in keeping with the global trend of countries analysing progress made with respect to ICTs within education systems and the labour market and a key objective is to highlight advances in instructional technology while showcasing 21st century technology for schools.
Additionally, BTEC aims to expose education practitioners to current thinking in the field of instructional technology and pedagogical integration. It is also envisaged that the event will give voice, movement and independence to the physically and intellectually challenged recognising the concept ???Disabled Bodies, Able Minds’.
Minister of Education and Human Resource Development, Ronald Jones will officially open the conference at the LESC on Wednesday, March 14, at 7:00 p.m.
During the three-day symposium, there will be workshop and exhibition components.?? Workshops will take place from Thursday, March 15, to Saturday, March 17. The exhibition, which will run from March 15 to 17, will give schools and the general public an opportunity to view software and hardware items provided by companies and partners in training and development. It will open from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. daily.
A key feature of BTEC will be the interactive workshops that will examine topics such as Animation in Education; Technology Integration – Digital Story Telling Assistive Technology for Special Needs, Mobile Devices and Gaming in Education and Cloud Technology in Education.
BTEC has the support of Corporate Barbados including CIBC First Caribbean International, Illuminat (B’dos), Microsoft Caribbean, Promotech; LIME, Fijitsu; Atlantic Computers, and Caribbean Academy Online.??
