Residents are encouraged to contact the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA) to make arrangements for their bulk waste collection as they prepare for the Christmas season.

Persons may request a bulk waste collection by calling the hotline at 262-5326 (26-CLEAN) or 262-5327 (26-CLEAR).

Operations Manager of Clean and Green, Askari Elson, made this appeal during the recent launch of a Clean and Green site at the Montgomery Pasture in Cave Hill, St. Michael.

“You can call and notify us and it will be a structured and well organised approach to the bulk waste collection whereby everyone will be able to get their place cleaned up for the Christmas period,” he said.

In addition, persons experiencing problems having their regular household waste collected may also use the hotline to report the lack of pick-up.

Mr. Elson said using the hotline assisted personnel at the SSA to route the reports it receives to the appropriate channels so they can be actioned by the relevant section. He also appealed to residents to desist from dumping their waste in public skips around communities.

“When you do that it takes up valuable space [which] the communities would need to get out their household garbage. There is no longer a tipping fee, so the landfill is there at the SBRC (Sustainable Barbados Recycling Centre) in St. Thomas,” he said.

He also advised that from Monday, December 5, persons with green waste (grass, shrubs, trees) may take it to the Armag Quarry, Carrington, St. Philip for disposal.

“I want to encourage you to work with us as we work with you. Let us work together. We want to build partnerships with the communities going forward…. We are all in this together working for the cleanliness of Barbados to make it clean and green,” Mr. Elson pointed out.
