The National Task Force on Wellness in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Wellness will host an event to mark Caribbean Wellness Day, this Saturday, September 10, at the National Botanical Gardens, Waterford, St. Michael. It will be held from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m.

This year, the Caribbean Public Health Agency together with the Pan American Health Organization and the Healthy Caribbean Coalition have collaborated on the theme Our Neighbourhood, Our Health, since neighbourhoods are where people live, work and socialise, and are key to health promotion.

The event will include physical activities such as sports and games, healthy food demonstrations, health checks, a ‘sun down cool down’ exercise session, wellness tips, information on stress management and educational activities representing the eight dimensions of wellness – physical, environmental, social, intellectual, occupational, spiritual, financial and emotional.

Caribbean Wellness Day is an annual event geared towards increasing awareness and promoting measures among CARICOM member states to address the epidemic of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), which continues to severely impact the health, economy and development of the region.

It targets individuals, families and community-based organisations and is aimed at promoting healthy lifestyle choices and reducing the risk of NCDs.
