The Central Bank of Barbados will stage a public lecture featuring former Chairman of the Federal Reserve of the United Sates and financial luminary, Paul Volcker, this month.

The lecture, titled Reflections will be held at the Frank Collymore Hall, Tom Adams Financial Centre, Bridgetown, on Monday, February 20, and will get under way at 8:00 p.m.??

Mr. Volcker was Chairman of the Economic Recovery Advisory Board under President Barack Obama from February 2009 until February 2011. He has also worked in the administrations of Presidents Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan from August 1979 to August 1987 and is highly credited with ending the high levels of inflation seen in the United States in the 1970s and early 1980s.

He is also recognised for creating what is referred to as the ???Volcker Rule’ which specifies that banks that benefit from government protection are not allowed to simultaneously enter into an advisory and creditor role with clients, such as with private equity firms. The rule seeks to protect individuals by creating a more transparent financial framework which can be regulated with greater ease. ??

Consequently, the lecture should be of benefit to economists, financial advisors, government technocrats, central bankers, business people, diplomats, Americans living in Barbados, persons with an interest in finance, banking and economics, and, of course?? the general public.??

Persons interested in attending the lecture are advised to contact the Central Bank of Barbados at telephone 436-6870 Ext. 6612.
