Individuals and businesses who import and export refrigerants and other chemicals controlled under the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer are advised that there will be a change to the licensing process.

Effective November 1, 2023, a request for approval must be made to the Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) and Hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) Management Programme of the Ministry of Environment and National Beautification, Green and Blue Economy (MENB), before applying to the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA) for an Import or Export Licence.

Evidence of the approval to import or export these regulated chemicals obtained from the ODS and HFC Management Programme must be uploaded when applying to the DCCA for the licence via the ASYCUDA online portal.

Application forms may be obtained by emailing ODSManagement@barbados.gov.bb.  For additional information on the change, persons may call the ODS and HFC Management Programme at 535-4389 or 535-4350. They may also call the DCCA at 535-7004 or 535-7000.

This change is in accordance with Government’s obligations under the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer and is in keeping with the process of the issuance of Import and Export Licences by the DCCA.

The work of the ODS and HFC Management Programme is executed by the MENB.

The ODS and HFC Management Programme of the MENB, and the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs hosted a meeting today, to sensitise stakeholders to the adjustment and answer their queries. The meeting was held at Savannah Hotel.
