May is Child Month and the Ministry of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs will focus on issues that impact children’s total development and wellbeing, under the theme Our Children: Building Hope and Resilience for Tomorrow.

The Child Care Board (CCB), the agency with responsibility for children, will be playing a leading role in ensuring Barbadians are reminded of their responsibility to ensure each child is afforded the opportunity to reach his/her potential.

Additionally, the CCB will be seeking to encourage adults and caregivers to create positive environments for the island’s children and to instill within each one of them resilience and confidence, in order to withstand adversity and recover quickly from difficulties.

The activities for Child Month are expected to impact the spiritual, social, and educational needs of children and, as such, the month will begin with a Children’s Service tomorrow, Friday, May 3, at the People’s Cathedral, Collymore Rock, St. Michael, at 10:00 a.m.

Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, Kirk Humphrey, will deliver the keynote address and officially launch the month during the service.
