Chile’s non-resident Ambassador to Barbados, Juan Aníbal Barría’s tenure will come to an end in early 2023.
While on the island to participate in celebratory Independence Day activities, the Ambassador paid a farewell call on Minister of State in Foreign Trade and Business, Sandra Husbands, at the Ministry’s Culloden Road location.
Minister Husbands thanked Mr. Barría for his service during his tenure as Ambassador to Barbados and communicated to him, that although his tenure was coming to an end, she hoped that in his new role, he would continue to advocate for Barbados not only in Chile but also in the international fora.
Ambassador Barría agreed that he would continue in whatever capacity he undertakes to highlight the interest of Barbados, especially regarding climate change matters. He also congratulated Barbados on becoming a republic and celebrating its first anniversary.
The two officials also engaged in wide-ranging discussions on matters related to: The Bridgetown Initiative; constitutional reform; renewable energy; Chilean students studying English as a foreign language in Barbados; an exchange programme in the area of tourism; climate change, and human rights.
Also present at the meeting were: Permanent Secretary, Simone Rudder and Senior Foreign Service Officer, Euclid Goodman. Chile became the first Latin American country with which Barbados established diplomatic relations in 1967.
