Consul General to Miami, Rudy Grant, and a delegation from Barbados recently paid a courtesy call on Atlanta’s Chief of Staff, Odie Donald II, where they discussed developing relations in commerce and culture.

Mr. Donald noted that Atlanta is home to many Caribbean people and is a hub for attracting investment in several areas, such as Information and Communication Technology, International Business, Tourism and the Film Industry.

Mr. Grant stated that Barbados has a lot in common with that city and is keen on deepening their relations.  He indicated that there would be a ‘Barbados Comes to Atlanta’ trade mission, at the end of this month, to highlight what the island has to offer.

The Consul General also informed the Chief of Staff that the trade mission would follow on from the April 28 Business Breakfast, where businesses from Barbados and Atlanta had explored possible trading ventures, and would showcase Barbadian culture.  It would also see the Barbados Constitutional Reform Commission hosting a meeting on Saturday, May 27.

The two officials discussed airlift, Atlanta’s clean energy plan by 2035, tourism, sustainability for small island developing states, the Bridgetown Initiative, biopharmaceutical industries, and education.

Barbados’ delegation at the meeting included the Honorary Consul to Atlanta, David Cutting; Chief Executive Officer, Invest Barbados, Kaye Greenidge; Chief Executive Officer, National Culture Foundation, Carol Roberts-Reifer, and Consul at the Consulate General of Barbados in Miami, Marvin Brathwaite.

Deputy Director, City of Atlanta, Mayor’s Office of International and Immigrant Affairs, Paulina Guzman, and International Business Manager, Nicholas Mukey, were also present.
