Engaging Communities in the Fight Against Crime is the theme of this year’s Crime Awareness Month, which started on November 1, and several activities have been organised by the Criminal Justice Research and Planning Unit (CJRPU) for its stakeholders and the public.

On Friday, November 4, the Unit will virtually launch its website, which will allow the organisation to share and disseminate information to its stakeholders and the public.

There will be a Stakeholder Webinar on Wednesday, November 16, which will release the findings of a 2021 Public Opinion Survey on crime and the criminal justice system in Barbados.

A free Community Crime Prevention Fair will be held on Saturday, November 26, at the Police Sports Club, Weymouth, St. Michael, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The fair will bring together all stakeholders involved in preventing crime, including The Barbados Police Service, security companies, and insurance companies.

There will be free health checks provided by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Barbados, and free legal advice between 11.00 a.m. and noon, on Wills and Estates matters. The entertainment package will include a skit by Jennifer Walker, artiste Edwin Yearwood, and music by a popular DJ.  The public is invited to attend.

Crime Awareness Month is observed annually to build an awareness of criminal justice agencies; highlight the contribution of criminal justice agencies in the fight against crime; and emphasise the impact of their work on the development of Barbados, and discuss possible solutions to crime and violence in the island.
