The deadline for the Celebrating the Legacy of Shirley Chisholm Arts Competition, under the auspices of the Division of Culture, Prime Minister’s Office and the National Library Service, has been extended until Sunday, November 17.
Interested Barbadians may submit entries in any art form, such as dance, music, poetry, essay, fine art, or any other format that best represents the theme of the competition, which is Celebrating the Contribution of Shirley Chisholm to the Political and Social Development of the United States of America.
All submissions must be in either jpeg, mp4, or pdf formats and contain the names and email addresses of competitors and sent to honourchisholm@nls.gov.bb.
The winner will receive an all-inclusive trip to New York, United States of America, while prizes will be awarded to second and third-place finalists. For further information on the contest, persons may call John Downes at 535-2900, or 535-2911.
Ms. Chisholm, an African American with Barbadian roots, was born on November 30, 1924. She was the first black woman to be elected to the United States Congress and was the first African-American woman to seek the Democratic Presidential Nomination in 1972.
