The Department of Emergency Management (DEM), in collaboration with the Coastal Zone Management Unit (CZMU), will host a Youth Sunset Coastal Hike on Saturday, October 12, from Cove Bay to River Bay, St. Lucy.

The youth are especially invited to participate in this hike to commemorate the United Nations International Day of Disaster Risk Reduction, which is on October 13. The theme for this year is Empowering the Next Generation for a Resilient Future.

Officials from the CZMU will lead hikers from Cove Bay, through Little Bay and onto River Bay, St. Lucy, looking at various elements of the island’s coastline.

Bus transportation is available from the Warrens Tower II, Warrens, St. Michael car park from 2:30 p.m. and buses will leave at 3:00 p.m. sharp, enroute to Cove Bay.

Persons desirous of travelling on the buses are encouraged to visit the DEM’s office at No. 24 Warrens Industrial Park, Warrens, St. Michael (next to the One Accord Plaza), from Monday, October 7, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., to collect tickets.

Hikers are reminded that they should wear comfortable clothing, including long pants, enclosed shoes with a grip, and bring water.
