The Department of Emergency Management (DEM) is inviting all youth to take part in its youth forum on Thursday, October 10, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Two Mile Hill, St. Michael, starting at 9:30 a.m.
The forum will focus on the topic Engaging Youth in Disaster, as the Department seeks to encourage more young people to get involved in disaster risk reduction in their schools and communities.
Director of the DEM, Kerry Hinds, will deliver the opening remarks, while the feature address will be delivered by United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), Deputy Chief of Office for the Americas and the Caribbean, Saskia Carusi.
This will be followed by a panel discussion, which includes representatives from the DEM, the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency, the Ashley Lashley Foundation, Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, and the UNDRR.
The forum will also feature information booths from various youth organisations. These include the Barbados Red Cross Society, the Seventh Day Adventist Pathfinders, the Barbados Defence Force Cadet Corps, and the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment.
