As part of the National Community Volunteer Exercise designed to confirm the list of Vulnerable Persons in each of the island’s District Emergency Organisations (DEO), several communities will be visited tomorrow, Saturday, June 15, by volunteers.
DEO volunteers in St. George North will visit Glebe Land, Salters, Bridge Cot, Coles Road, Bournes Village, Parish Land, Sweet Vale, and Redland/Bailey Alley. The assembly point will be the Valley Resource Centre, Glebe, St. George and the start time will be 8:00 a.m.
In St. George South, volunteers will be at Ellerton, Todds, Greens and Drax Hall Woods. The group will meet at Ellerton Community Centre, Ellerton, St. George, where they will move off at 8:00 a.m.
Communities to be visited by DEO volunteers in St. James Central will be Redman’s Village, Bagatelle, Arch Hall, Fitts Village, Prospect and Paynes Bay. The meeting place will be Redman’s Gas station from 8:30 a.m.
The exercise, a joint effort between the Department of Emergency Management (DEM) and the Barbados Defence Force, will run until 5:00 p.m.
Members of the DEOs will be wearing a blue polo shirt bearing the DEM’s logo to the front and the text “District Emergency Organisation Volunteer” in white across the back and long pants.
DEOs will carry a form on which they will record information relating to vulnerable persons from within communities across the island. They will not be collecting money.
The exercise is designed to confirm the Vulnerable Persons’ listing for each DEO as provided by the Ministry of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, as well as test the communications between the DEOs in the field and officials at the DEM.
