The Diabetes and Hypertension Association of Barbados (DHAB) will host a number of activities throughout the month of November in celebration of World Diabetes Day on November 14, under the theme Education to Protect Tomorrow.

Members of the Association are conducting a screening campaign during the month, where they will visit several locations across the island targeting adults with a family history of the condition, as well as those who are overweight or recognise that they have unhealthy lifestyle habits.

There will be a church service on Sunday, November 13, at the James Street Methodist Church in The City, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and a 5K Walk and Run later that day, starting at the YMPC cricket grounds, Beckles Road, St. Michael, at 3:30 p.m.

On Monday, November 14, the John Grace Memorial Lecture will take place at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre (LESC), Two Mile Hill, St. Michael, at 7:00 p.m. Mr. Anthony Kelly, a diabetes advocate, who has been living with the condition for more than 10 years without the need for pharmacological intervention, will deliver the feature address.

The Association will also stage a one-day expo at the LESC, on Friday, November 18, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. It will bring together multiple stakeholders who will display and offer their services and products to persons living with diabetes.

Hourly sessions will be delivered by experts in diabetes with one-on-one consultations facilitated. Patrons can expect healthy giveaways during the event.
