The Draft Electricity Supply Bill 2023 is now available for public comment.

Any comments on the Bill should be submitted by Monday, August 28, via email to energyinfo@barbados.gov.bb,  with the subject ‘Draft Electricity Supply Bill – Comments’. 

This Bill will regulate the generation, storage, transmission, distribution, dispatch, supply and sale of electricity in the newly democratised electricity market. It is designed to encourage local participation, promote transparency, and allow for competition in generation and storage. Additionally, the Bill aims to enhance energy security, climate resiliency and reliability of services in the sector through the adoption of energy practices and technologies that are sustainable.

The Draft Electricity Supply Bill 2023, which will replace the Electric Light and Power Act (ELPA), 2013-2021, seeks to modernise the regulatory regime that was introduced under the ELPA to make provision for the changing technological opportunities being developed in renewable energy, and its implications for climate change and sustainable economic development.
