The Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training (METVT) will be addressing the issue of examinations.
Minister of Education, Santia Bradshaw, touched on the matter during a recent meeting with education stakeholders at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.
She said the topic of examinations was “a burning issue” which had been impacting children, specifically those who are at-risk. She noted that the Ministry would be addressing this subject “at some point”.
“…If you are not able to read or write properly, it does have an impact on your ability to settle in the school environment,” Ms. Bradshaw emphasized, pointing out that the METVT was taking steps to deal with issues of literacy and numeracy in schools to strengthen the support systems that currently exist.
The Education Minister also disclosed that her Ministry would be reaching out to some of the retired educators in the system to have them be part of a programme where they could give back by working with students.
