The Ministry of Energy and Business is continuing to put the necessary mechanisms in place to roll out the pilot phase of the National Financial Literacy Programme in primary and secondary schools next term.

Chief Business Development Advisor in the Small Business Development Unit of the Ministry, Anderson Cumberbatch, said an invitation has been issued for qualified and experienced individuals to assume the roles as teaching facilitators for the National Financial Literacy Programme in six primary and seven secondary public schools.

Persons interested in becoming facilitators should email their applications, accompanied by a curriculum vitae or résumé and two recent testimonials, to Mr. Cumberbatch at anderson.cumberbatch@barbados.gov.bb. The deadline for submission is 4:30 p.m. on Friday, December 8.

Underscoring the importance of the programme, Mr. Cumberbatch explained: “Its primary objective is to increase financial literacy among students, allowing them to be better equipped to make more informed, strategic and wise financial decisions.

“The programme will be conducted during regular school hours across the selected primary and secondary institutions. The curriculum will include critical money-related topics such as earnings, spending, saving, budgeting, borrowing, investing and debt management.”

The Chief Business Development Advisor stated that the response to the programme by officials has been very positive and he is looking forward to its execution in the schools.
