The National Peace Program’s flagship event – Flip Yah Script, which aims to empower young people from at-risk communities by providing them with opportunities for personal and professional development, has been launched.

Minister of State in the Office of the Attorney General with responsibility for Crime Prevention, Corey Lane, said almost 100 young persons from communities across the island participated in the initiative, recently launched at Accra Beach Hotel and Spa.

Mr. Lane explained that the young people would be exposed to an eight-week personal development session, where they would examine areas such as etiquette and financial management.

“From there, we want to have them as agents of peace within their community,” he told the media.  He added that the young people will be provided with life coaches who will help them along life’s journey.

During his opening address, the Minister of State said there were several initiatives under the National Peace Program that would greatly assist the young people and highlighted them as including the New Horizons Youth Portal and Startwise.

He told the young people that Government and the entire society were “fighting” for them and encouraged them to also fight for themselves.

Flip Yah Script seeks to broaden the young peoples’ perspectives, inspire and equip them with valuable skills and knowledge to break free from the constraints of their environments. Its objectives are to motivate young people from at-risk communities to aim higher and think outside the box; provide personal and professional development opportunities through workshops and informational booths, and foster community engagement and networking among participants and organisations.
