As Barbadians join in the celebration of World Environment Day tomorrow, June 5, a number of officers from both the Health and Environment ministries will mark the occasion with a field activity in the Station Hill, Belle Gully area.

Personnel from the Environmental Health Department of the Winston Scott Polyclinic, along with representatives from the Sanitation Department, Water Authority and Drainage Unit, will participate in the exercise, which will begin at the Belle Pumping Station.

The objectives of the operation are to heighten the awareness of all officers about the threat of illegal dumping to this country’s water supply; identify illegal dump sites, and householders who improperly dispose of their solid and liquid domestic waste; to foster closer linkages with key stakeholders to eliminate these existing threats; and to strengthen the interpersonal linkages of the officers.
