Barbados’ High Commissioner to Canada, Gline Clarke, paid a courtesy call to the Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Juan Carlos Salazar, at the ICAO Headquarters in Montreal, Canada.

High Commissioner Clarke presented his credentials to Secretary General Salazar, during the meeting where they discussed the importance of civil aviation as a lifeline for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) such as Barbados and others in the Caribbean.

Also discussed was the role that the ICAO, an organisation with an 80-year legacy, can play in capacity building through its regional offices and bureaus.

Secretary General Salazar expressed the view that the ICAO is committed to ensuring that no country is left behind and that the ICAO is therefore committed to ensuring that all member states can meet the international requirements.  He also reiterated ICAO’s support for Barbados’ efforts to enhance its aviation sector.

The courtesy call concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to strengthening their partnership and working together to address the challenges and opportunities in the aviation industry.

The meeting was also attended by Counsellor at the High Commission, Andre Padmore; First Secretary, Marvin Brathwaite; Barbados’ Honorary Consul to Montreal, Dr. Myrna Lashley; ICAO’s Deputy Director of the North American, Central American and Caribbean Office, Julio Siu; and ICAO’s Director of the Legal Affairs and External Relations Bureau, Michael Gill.
