The Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, Stephen Lashley has extended condolences to the family of Barbadian jockey Darren Fortune.
In a statement released via social media, Mr. Lashley noted that “Darren’s death will be a great loss to horse racing in Barbados and Canada”.
According to reports, Darren succumbed to his injuries on Friday after he fell off of a horse that had collided with another at Toronto’s Woodbine Racetrack.
“I join with the horse racing fraternity, on behalf of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and the Government and people of Barbados, in expressing profound regret on his passing and in commending the efforts he made during his 20 years in Canada to pave the way for himself and other Barbadian riders to take advantage of the opportunities in horse racing.”
