‘Majestic Illusions – The Fashion Show’, a production hosted by the final year students of the Garment Technology Programme of the Division of Ecology at the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology (SJPI), was a resounding success.
The show, which took place last Thursday at the SJPI, displayed the talent, creativity, innovation, and genius of young budding fashion designers.
In a packed auditorium, one of the instructors of the Human Ecology Division, Winifred Banfield, expressed her excitement about the tremendous talent showcased by her students.
“Today, we celebrate the remarkable talents of the students from the Garment Technology faculty, who, under the expert guidance of their illustrious designer Krystal Byer, have poured their passion, ingenuity and hard work into crafting these stunning pieces,” Ms. Banfield said.
She further stated that each garment told the story of vision and dedication, reflecting the unique and creative spirits of the talented students.
One of the young designers, Rasheeda Lewis, described seeing her designs on the runway as exhilarating.
“It was a proud moment for me and my fellow students. The preparation was challenging, and I encountered difficulties leading up to the show and on the day of the show. I managed to resolve most of them, and for those I couldn’t fix, I went ahead with and hoped for the best,” she expressed.
Instructor and designer Krystal Byer, while reflecting on the students’ work, hailed the show as “a testament to their hard work, dedication and passion for fashion”.
The event showcased seven collections: ‘Girls Trip’ by Laticia Sealy; ‘Blue Waters’ by Ciara Williams; ‘Date Night’ by Jade Cumberbatch; ‘Little Black Dress’ by Joycelyn Parris; ‘Knotted by Dusk’ by Shanice Husbands; ‘Denim Dreams’ by Zaria Bowen; and ‘Ellavate’ by Rasheeda Lewis.
The final collection, ‘Majestic Illusion’, was an amalgamation of signature pieces from each designer, showcasing their unique talents and creativity.
