Manager of the Youth Entrepreneurship Scheme, Ryan Moseley, engaging participants of the Floral Arrangement Class during his presentation at the NDU. (Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment)

On January 25th 2023, the Manager of the Youth Entrepreneurship Scheme (YES), Ryan Moseley, conducted a presentation for 10 female participants at the National Disabilities Unit (NUD) Headquarters in Maxwelton, Lower Collymore Rock, St. Michael.

The presentation, which was made to participants in the Floral Arrangement Class at the NUD, focused on the business aspect of having a Floral Arrangement Business.

  • How to determine the cost of producing a floral arrangement
  • How to price the arrangement using basic research and profit calculations
  • How to differentiate pricing compared to the competition
  • Ways to reduce the production cost of an arrangement.
  • Purchasing in bulk to lower production cost and maximize profits

The presentation included practical exercises, which Mr. Mosley used to creatively demonstrate how to manage money. Monopoly money was used to showcase how money made from sales should be reinvested in future inventory, savings, for personal use and to differentiate between spending on “wants” versus “needs”.

Participants will now be able to take the knowledge learned during the session and apply it in the future when they complete their class.

The collaboration between YES & the NDU was facilitated by Youth Development Programme’s Youth Commissioner and Social Work Intern with NDU, Alicia Catwell.
