The Ministry of Maritime Affairs & the Blue Economy (MMABE) will host a week of activities, from Sunday, November 1, to Saturday, November 7, to celebrate Bluefest Week 2020, under the theme: Telling Our Story.
There will be a new series Men Of Honour – Telling Our Story on CBC TV8 BGIS social media and MMABE’s Instagram and Facebook.
The activities commence with a Thanksgiving service at St Paul’s Anglican Church, Bay Street, St Michael, beginning at 8:00 a.m., at which all COVID-19 protocols will be enforced. This event will be streamed.
It will be followed by a panel discussion on Monday, November 2, which will be streamed from the Ministry’s headquarters, at the Civil Aviation Building, Hopefield Development, Charnocks, Christ Church. The theme is Telling Our Story.
Panellists will be Minister Kirk Humphrey; Director of the Coastal Zone Management Unit, Dr. Leo Brewster; MMABE Chief Technical Officer, Jacqueline Blackman; Climate Change Officer, Rickardo Ward; and Maritime Attorney, Najla King. The panel will focus on defining the future of the Ministry, and will be fielding questions via the Ministry’s Facebook Page.
On November 4, the focus will be on Consett Bay, as the annual Molly Awards gets under way at 2:00 p.m. It will also be the start of the annual fishing season.
Oistins will be the scene setter for Thursday, November 5, when a former fish vendor will be honoured at the Berinda Cox Fish Market. On Saturday, November 7, the Ministry will focus its celebrations on retired sailors.
Bluefest Week 2020 will come to an end on Monday, November 9, with a virtual symposium, being held in conjunction with the Inter-American Development Bank.
