Barbadian media houses have thrown their full support behind a national telethon scheduled to be held this coming Sunday, September 8, to raise funds for the relief effort in the Bahamas.

At a meeting today at the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation, attended by representatives from several media houses and chaired by Minister of Information, Broadcasting and Public Affairs, Senator Lucille Moe, they gave their commitment to ensuring that the initiative is successfully executed.

Media representatives were encouraged to assist with the promotion of the event; manning of telephones; and hosting of the event. They were also asked to help with the conducting of interviews as well as providing anchors throughout the telethon.

During the telethon, there will be videos shown of the devastation which occurred in the Bahamas; packaged features on the Bahamas, live interviews with the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) and Caribbean Heads of Government whose countries would have experienced similar disasters and, contributions from a wide cross section of organizations, as well as performances from local and regional artistes.

All funds collected during the event will go into the CDEMA Barbados/Bahamas Relief Fund at the CIBC First Caribbean International Bank.  The account number for the fund is 1001186684.
