A special unit established by the Immigration Department to process applications for the Barbados Welcome Stamp initiative has come in for high praise from Minister of Home Affairs, Information and Public Affairs, Wilfred Abrahams.
The Minister visited the six-member team in their office at the Grantley Adams International Airport on Monday, accompanied by Deputy Chief Immigration Officer, Margaret Inniss, where he engaged them in discussions about how the process was going.
He also sought to share Government’s vision about the initiative, noting that it was designed to stimulate and “save” the economy as it relates to tourism.
“We appreciate all that you are doing. Right now, tourism has slowed to a crawl and we are trying different initiatives to stimulate the economy,” he said.
Mr. Abrahams encouraged the team to share their recommendations and concerns on how the initiative could be improved, and gave the assurance that they would be passed on to the relevant authorities for follow-up.
