In the event of ash fall on Barbados from the La Soufriere volcano in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the Ministry of Health and Wellness has issued precautionary tips for persons to manage their respiratory health.
The Ministry has advised persons who suffer from respiratory conditions, such as asthma, and eye allergies to have their medications on hand at all times.
Persons have also been encouraged to wear face masks to provide relief and prevent exposure to relatively non-hazardous contaminants.
The Ministry of Health added that outdoor activity should be minimised, and persons are advised to stay indoors. Windows and doors should be kept closed to stop ash from entering buildings.
Meanwhile, persons who need to work outside should wear protective clothing, such as long sleeves and long pants, to protect the skin, and googles to protect their eyes.
It has also advised motorists to drive with caution and to use lights and car wiper systems if visibility becomes difficult.
