There have been comments in the press attributed to the National Union of Public Workers advising staff not to sign the Job Descriptions issued by the Ministry of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs as it continues the process to amalgamate the Child Care Board, National Disabilities Unit, the National Assistance Board and the Welfare Department.

This serves to advise that the Job Descriptions in circulation among the staff are draft documents being circulated for staff to give their input so as to more effectively capture the nature of the work of the various positions within the Ministry.

This is to ensure that staff have the opportunity to participate in the crafting of their Job requirements as the Ministry holds the view that staff are best positioned to help guide this entire process.

Staff are therefore not required to sign the Job Descriptions but are encouraged to give comments so that the final documents reflect what is in their best interests, the interests of the organization and most importantly, the interests of the public. The Job Descriptions have also been issued to the Unions for their comments.

We remain committed to working with all Unions who represent our staff in this process and will do nothing to violate the collective bargaining arrangements we have in place or to dissolve the trust between the Ministry and staff and their unions.
