Activities for the Month of the Disabled will continue next week with a church service and a health fair, to be hosted by the National Disabilities Unit (NDU) and a number of events by the Barbados Council for the Disabled (BCD).

On Sunday, March 10, members of the public are invited to worship with the community of persons with disabilities at St. David’s Church, St. David’s, Christ Church. The multi-faith service begins at 4:00 p.m. 

On Wednesday, March 13, the NDU will host its first-ever Health Fair, in collaboration with Carlisle Laboratories, on its grounds at Lower Collymore Rock, St. Michael.

The event, which runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., will allow patrons the opportunity to have blood sugar and blood pressure checks, among other things. They will also be introduced to products offered by Carlisle Laboratories and encouraged to participate in informative sessions on non-communicable diseases and other chronic medical ailments.

Meanwhile, the Learning Centre at Orange Hill, St. James will stage a draughts competition on Monday, March 11, from 9:30 a.m.; a road tennis competition on Tuesday, March 12, and again on Thursday, March 14, from 9:30 a.m., and a table tennis competition on Wednesday, March 13, at 9:30 a.m. 

There will also be a Disability Awareness presentation on Thursday, March 14, at the Olga Millar Nursery School, Six Cross Roads, St. Philip. It starts at 11:00 a.m. and will be delivered by Public Relations Officer with the BCD, Chris Gilkes.

The Learning Centre will also host a sponsored walk at Folkestone Park, on Friday, March15, from 9:30 a.m.

On Saturday, March 16, the BCD will host a promotional drive in partnership with the Maria Holder Diabetes Centre, from 9:00 a.m. until noon, at the Centre in Warrens, St. Michael.

That same day, the Barbados Council for the Disabled will facilitate a Fun Day for students and teachers of Ellerton Primary and the Irving Wilson School, at the Art Splash Café, Hastings, Christ Church. The “More Than Words” Autism programme will run from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. The theme for the Month of the Disabled is: One Community: United in Action.
