The Division of Culture, Prime Minister’s Office, has mounted an exhibition to showcase the work of artists who submitted designs for the Monument Design Competition for National Heroes Square.  

The public may view the designs in Sky Mall, Haggatt Hall, St. Michael, until Thursday, October 27.

The competition was launched on May 15, which is designated by the United Nations as International Day of Families, and was one of the activities for the Season of Emancipation. 

Participants were challenged to come up with the best concept that captured the Barbadian family, its contribution and journey as a people and a nation. 

The finalists chosen are Sheena Weekes, Jamal Weekes and Israel Mapp entitled: Reunion; Vincent Jones and Hugh Holder’s We Loyal Sons and Daughters design, and The Monument of the Barbadian Family done by Kevin Talma.

The first prize winner will receive $15,000; the second, $7,000, and the third, $3,000. A date for the erecting of the monument will be announced later.
