Over the last several months, artists have been working diligently to create the best concept that represents the Barbadian family, its contribution and journey as a people and a nation.

Come Monday, October 17, the finalists for the Prime Minister’s Office Division of Culture design competition for the National Heroes Monument, will be announced during a press conference in the foyer at Sky Mall, Haggatt Hall, St. Michael, starting at 9:00 a.m.

The competition was launched on May 15, designated by the United Nations as International Day of Families, and was also one of the activities for the Season of Emancipation.

During the launch, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office with responsibility for Culture, Senator Dr. Shantal Munro-Knight, stated that the installation of a monument in National Heroes Square to commemorate the Barbadian Family was in recognition of the resilience of “our ancestors and the enduring Barbadian family and their momentous contribution to our journey as a people and nation”.

“It is considered that the Barbadian family is the ultimate national hero from which all of our national heroes were born and raised,” she emphasised.

Currently, there is an exhibition of the design submissions in the foyer which will run until Friday, October 21.
