The role of Members of Parliament (MPs) and Ministers will be examined when the Parliamentary Reform Commission (PRC) hosts its third town hall meeting on Thursday, August 31.

It will be held at the Princess Margaret Secondary School, Six Cross Roads, St. Philip, starting at 7:00 p.m. Former Members of Parliament and Government Ministers Rudolph “Cappy” Greenidge and Stephen Lashley will be among the presenters.

They will discuss the terms and conditions of parliamentarians; parliamentary reform; and the pension of parliamentarians, among other areas. Additionally, they will share their experiences as parliamentarians.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend the session, and give their views and comments, or ask questions, as the commissioners are keen to hear their opinions, which will inform the work of the PRC.  A report will be prepared after extensive consultation and presented to the President.

The Commission was created to examine, consider, and look into the parliamentary system, process and procedures, as well as all other related laws and matters, with a view to making recommendations to strengthen Parliament and its functions. The aim is to enlarge and fortify democracy and to reflect the desires of citizens, as they seek to take full ownership of national institutions and processes in building a culturally relevant, inclusive, and modern state that reflects Barbados’ republican status.
