Residents and businesses across Barbados are encouraged to take part in the activities planned for National Earthquake Preparedness Day, tomorrow, Friday, March 8, from 10:00 a.m.

The day is part of Coastal Hazards and Earthquake Smart Month, which ends on March 31. The theme for the month is Resilient Shores, Secure Futures. It is being observed to increase earthquake awareness among the Barbadian community and to test earthquake procedures.

On the day, schools and organisations are encouraged to use an alerting system to trigger the drill at 10:00 a.m.

At that time, persons are also expected to practise earthquake procedures for their homes or offices and record video footage and upload to social media, tagging the DEM at Instagram.com/dem.barbados; Facebook.com/dem.barbados; or twitter.com/dem_barbados, using the hashtag #EarthquakeReady.

Persons who require additional information may call the DEM at 438-7575, or send an email to danielle.skeete@barbados.gov.bb or deminfo@barbados.gov.bb
