The deadline for the Barbados Investment and Development Corporation’s (BIDC) Volcanic Ash Product Challenge has been extended to Monday, May 31.
The competition, which is part of the BIDC’s Export Barbados campaign, invites persons with innovative solutions for utilising volcanic ash to participate in one of two challenges.
The first is a product challenge, which offers a grand prize of BDS$5000. Under this initiative, interested persons should submit a proposal of 200 to 500 words, outlining their product or solution; the problem it solves; how the solution can be implemented within 12 months; along with a four-minute video explaining the idea and process.
Persons also have the option to enter the social media contest, which requires participants to post a photo in response to one of the following tasks:
Challenge 1: Reusing volcanic ash from the La Soufriere eruption, what new or improved products would you create? Challenge 2: What equipment, machinery or technology product would you create or utilise to clean up volcanic ash?
When posting photos, competitors should use the hashtag #ExportBarbados along with #challenge1 or #challenge2, depending on the option chosen.
A prize of $200 will be awarded for each winning idea. For more information on eligibility and submission guidelines, visit http://www.bidc.org/ash-challenge.
