Another non-financial co-operative will be launched within a few days.

The Unified Trust Cooperative Society Limited will be officially launched on Saturday, May 11, in the National Botanical Gardens, Waterford, St. Michael.

This co-operative comprises innovative businessmen and women who were originally part of the Barbados Trust Fund Limited’s business cluster in the food, beverage, and beauty sector, before they transitioned to a co-operative.

Registrar of Co-operatives and Friendly Societies, Brent Gittens, lauded the group for coming together and forming the co-operative.

“They have common goals and objectives, excellent products, and diverse skill sets, which I see as a strength for achieving success.  Furthermore, that diversity can also be an enabler in overcoming any challenges and threats that may arise and affect them.

“Barbados’ entrepreneurial culture continues to develop, and this society is testimony of that fact.  We continue to see a special type of Barbadian who is not interested in seeking employment in the public or private sector, but is willing to take the risk and be in control of their own destiny, with the purpose of creating employment, value and innovation, while delivering needed products and services in the business arena,” Mr. Gittens stated.

The Registrar proffered the view that Government and the private sector must continue to provide access to finance and assist in offering an enabling environment as support structures for these entrepreneurs.

“On the other hand, this co-operative must ensure that its business model is very customer-focused and high in service delivery.  The members must also seek to use the technology in the best way possible, in order to benefit their organisation and network with all relevant stakeholders so as to leverage strategic business partnerships,” Mr. Gittens suggested.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend the Living Well, Ageing Well market event at the National Botanical Gardens and support the entrepreneurs. It is scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m.
