The electrical work to bring all National Housing Corporation (NHC) units up to code in the Haynesville Housing Estates have been completed, and are awaiting the Barbados Light and Power (BL&P) to finalise the process.
Minister of Housing, Lands and Maintenance, Dr. William Duguid, disclosed this today, while giving an update on NHC’s electrical upgrades at Haynesville, St. James.
Minister Duguid praised everyone who worked on the project, and stated: “I’m so happy to be able to say today we are almost fully complete with the ones here…. Certainly, all the labour work from the NHC’s end has been completed and the upgrades have been done. All we’re waiting on now is for 84 units out of the 324… to be connected now to the BL&P.”
The Housing Minister urged the company to complete the process in a timely manner, to avoid any incidents from occurring.
“We do not want a fire in any of these blocks…. The risks that are undertaken and happen when you have a fire in a NHC unit or… block and the loss of life and the risk to the people and the occupants there…. So, I’m asking and pleading for the BL&P to come out as a matter of urgency and get the rest of these units connected,” he said.
