Deputy Prime Minister Santia Bradshaw has revealed that three Standing Committees have been approved by Parliament.

Ms. Bradshaw was speaking at the swearing-in ceremony for six Commissioners of the Parliamentary Reform Commission, at State House, this morning.

She said the Standing Committees were set up to ensure that people understand the business of government, that is, “what we’re doing on a day-to-day basis”.

“Just recently, The House would have approved Standing Orders Committees. One is on governance, one is on economic policy, and one is on social and environmental matters. And we’ve set up those three committees essentially to do a further deep dive into a number of legislative matters. Again, we don’t want to just go to Parliament, pass laws and the general public does not fully understand or appreciate the extent of how these policies will impact on them,” the Deputy Prime Minister stated.

She explained that the committees were another way of how the Government would be engaging with the public, in addition to People’s Assemblies and Parish Speaks, so that the people of the country could be engaged in every avenue across government.
