Children across Barbados between ages nine and 15 are invited to take part in the Barbados Postal Service’s 2024 National Letter Writing Competition.
The theme for the competition is: “At 150 years old, the UPU (Universal Postal Union) has served people around the world for more than eight generations. The world has changed enormously since then.”
Competitors will therefore be required to write, in no more than 800 words, a letter to future generations about the world you hope they inherit. All compositions must be original, typed, and may include illustrations.
Application forms are available on the website of the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training. Completed application forms and the letter should be emailed to submissions@bps.bb by Friday, April 5.
Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place, while the winning entry will be entered in the UPU’s 53rd International Letter Writing Competition, scheduled to be held in Switzerland.
The National Letter Writing Competition is designed to foster a greater appreciation for the art of letter writing among young people. It aims to develop their composition skills and broaden their creative expression and research capabilities.
