The old Town Hall Building, Cheapside, Bridgetown. (FP)

The National Tourism Program (NTP) is inviting the public to participate in a consultation on proposed plans for the Old Town Hall Building, located at Cheapside, Bridgetown, on Friday, May 24.

Government has entered into a loan agreement of US$20 million with the Inter-American Development Bank for the financing of the NTP, which is under the purview of the Ministry of Tourism and International Transport.

The main objective of this national initiative is to increase the resilience of Barbados’ tourism industry with a focus on increasing tourism receipts. One of the activities to be executed under Component One – New Tourism Products of the NTP pertains to the design of an art gallery and visitor centre at the Old Town Hall Building.

As part of the stakeholder engagement phase, the public consultancy will be conducted from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, in an Open House format at the Old Town Hall Building.

During this period, the public may view the preliminary designs, engage with the Ministry’s project team and the designer, and provide feedback on the proposed plans.

It is proposed that on the top floor, a modern art gallery be located as a satellite of the Barbados National Art Gallery and on the ground floor of the building a modern interactive Visitor Centre.
