The grounds of the Haggatt Hall Resource Centre, Robert’s Road, Haggatt Hall, St. Michael, are receiving a facelift compliments of the Ministry of Environment and National Beautification’s Clean and Green Campaign.

The space will now be adorned with picnic tables and benches as well as fruit and ornamental trees.  The Clean and Green team, led by Minister of Environment and National Beautification, Adrian Forde, paid a visit to the centre this morning to announce plans for the area.

He was accompanied by parliamentary representative, Trevor Prescod, as well as a number of residents from the community.

Minister Forde encouraged those present to take care of the recreational and green space as if it were their homes. He also implored them not to allow anyone to dump illegally on the grounds.

The Minister also urged each Barbadian to plant trees not just on Arbor Day, which is celebrated on September 22, each year, but throughout the entire month, which has been designated Arbor Month. Arbor Day will be celebrated under the theme Trees Save Lives.

Mr. Forde pointed out that his dream was to have Barbadians plant 200,000 trees this month alone.

Mr. Prescod said the initiative would allow residents, especially children, to have that much needed social interaction that has been threatened by the COVID-19 pandemic, adding that in addition to the green space, there were plans to have repairs done to the resource centre as well as have lights erected, so persons could enjoy the outdoors longer “but while staying within the curfew”.
