The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and the Blue Economy will host a webinar entitled: The Science We Need for the Ocean We Want, on Tuesday, November 2, from 10:00 a.m. until noon. Persons are encouraged to register for this webinar by clicking here.
The speakers will be Minister of Maritime Affairs and the Blue Economy, Kirk Humphrey; Director of the Coastal Zone Management Unit, Dr. Leo Brewster; Head of the Office of Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission for the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions, Dr. Cesar Toro; Professor Emeritus (Marine Affairs) at the Centre for Resource Management and Environmental Studies (CERMES), University of the West Indies, Cave Hill, Professor Robin Mahon, and Programme Officer with the Ecosystems Division of the United Nations Environment Programme, Christopher Corbin.
The webinar is designed to expose the Barbadian public to a range of topical issues related to the mandate of the Ministry and which are important to Barbados’ future development.
Its focus is on the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, and is intended to highlight the cross-cutting nature of the coastal and marine challenges that face Barbados and the Caribbean region.
It will also look at the implications that they have for the broad suite of sustainability pursuits that are currently in vogue – blue economy, green economy, circular economy, climate change mitigation, adaptation and resilience and the Sustainable Development Goals.
