Members of the public will have the opportunity to not only learn how to swim but also understand ocean hazards, when the annual National Conservation Commission’s (NCC) Operation S.O.S (Save Our Selves) programme gets under way from July 16 to August 29.

The sessions will be held on Wednesdays from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Browne’s Beach, Bay Street, St. Michael (near the NCC’s facility).

The annual six-week programme seeks to raise public awareness in several areas, including: water safety, sea currents, winds, waves, red flags and beach signage.

Operation S.O.S is open to all persons 10 years and over. There will be a small fee for registrants aged 13 to 64; however, the fee will be waived for those aged 10 to 12 or 65 years or older.

Registration forms may be collected from the NCC’s headquarters at Codrington House, Waterford, St. Michael, or downloaded from the NCC’s website.

The deadline for registration is Wednesday, July 4. For more information, persons may contact the NCC’s public relations department at 425-1200.
