Manufacturers, importers and persons who import goods on a small scale, are reminded that they may register for a workshop on: Implementing Standards for the Use of Disposal Plastics in Barbados.

The workshop will be hosted by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and the Blue Economy and the Barbados National Standards Institution (BNSI) on Wednesday, November 3, beginning at 9:30 a.m. via the Zoom platform.

Persons may register for the workshop by contacting Consultant at the Ministry, Lee Rose at lee.rose@barbados.gov.bb, or Senior Administrative Officer at the Ministry, Lynn Culpepper at lynn.culpepper@barbados.gov.bb. Registration runs until Monday, November 1.

The Control of Disposable Plastics Act came into effect in 2020 and prohibits the importation, manufacture, distribution and sale of certain single-use petroleum-based plastic items.

Barbados, through the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and the Blue Economy and the BNSI is seeking to implement the ASTM and ISO standards.
