Persons involved in the retail sector will soon undergo training to learn more about the CARICOM Energy Efficiency Labels for select appliances.

The online training is being hosted by the CARICOM Regional Organisation for Standards & Quality (CROSQ), with assistance from the Barbados National Standards Institution (BNSI).  Retailers are encouraged to register now for the three sessions, which will begin at 10:30 a.m., each day.

The sensitisation for managers and supervisors will be held on Tuesday, June 20.  Persons may register using the below link:

Retail floor staff and shop assistants will have their sessions on Thursday, June 22, and Monday, June 26. The link for June 22 may be found here. The June 26 meeting link is here.

For additional information, persons may call the BNSI at 426-3870, or email bnsi.office@barbados.gov.bb. Retailers from Barbados, Belize, Jamaica, St. Lucia, and Trinidad and Tobago, who are piloting or using the CARICOM Energy Efficiency Labels, are expected to participate in the sessions.

The regional training is designed to support the implementation of the CARICOM Regional Harmonised Energy Efficiency Labelling Programme, and help retailers provide customers with accurate information when choosing products based on the CARICOM Energy Labels, among other things.

In 2017, CROSQ, in collaboration with the German National Metrology Institute, embarked on a programme to design and implement an energy efficiency project for lighting products, air conditioners and refrigerators, which were identified as some of the main high energy consumers in homes and businesses.

The labelling initiative is currently being piloted in four countries under this project, namely Belize, Jamaica, St. Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago, while Barbados has joined as an observer.
