Another group has stepped up to the plate to ensure that those providing and receiving care at the island’s isolation facilities can do so in comfort.
This time it is members of the Sindhi community, who have donated much-needed items to the Blackman and Gollop Isolation Facility.
They recently presented Manager of Isolation Facilities, Dr. Corey Forde, with 20 divan beds, 20 twin sheet sets, and 100 towel bath mats.
“During a conversation with another donor to the Harrison Point [Isolation] Facility, it was mentioned that Dr. Corey Forde had indicated that among everything else, he and a few members of staff had to give up their beds to ensure the comfort of the patients at the facility.
“As we came to know of the challenges experienced at the Blackman and Gollop facility due to the lack of various physical necessities for the basic comfort of recovering COVID-19 patients, our community rallied together to collect donations to make this sizable purchase. The Sindhi community is honoured to meet some of the needs of those at the facility [and] we would like to thank those members who generously contributed,” member of the community, Dr. Vijaya Thani Samtani said.
Dr. Forde expressed his gratitude to the Sindhi community, thanking them for their generous donation.
Dr. Thani said the Sindhi community was willing to help and stand with Government in the battle against COVID-19.
“We want to deeply thank Dr. Corey Forde and the entire team of front-line workers at all facilities across the island of Barbados for their continued effort, dedication, and bravery. We are all in this together and hope that the Sindhi community can continue to be of assistance to the team in any way going forward,” she stated.
