Free bus tickets for the Youth Sunset Coastal Hike on Saturday, October 12, from Cove Bay to River Bay, St. Lucy, are available from the Department of Emergency Management (DEM), and the Coastal Zone Management Unit.
Bus transportation is available from the Warrens Tower II, Warrens, St. Michael car park from 2:30 p.m., and buses will leave at 3:00 p.m. sharp en route to Cove Bay.
Persons desirous of travelling on the buses are encouraged to visit the DEM’s office at No. 24 Warrens Industrial Park, Warrens, St. Michael (next to the One Accord Plaza), or the CZMU’s office at Warrens Tower II, Warrens, St. Michael, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., to collect their tickets.
The youth are especially invited to join this hike to commemorate the United Nations International Day of Disaster Risk Reduction, which is observed on October 13. The theme for this year is Empowering the Next Generation for a Resilient Future.
Officials from the CZMU will lead hikers from Cove Bay, through Little Bay and onto River Bay, St. Lucy, looking at various elements of the island’s coastline.
Hikers are reminded that they should wear comfortable clothing, including long pants, and enclosed shoes with a grip, and bring water.
